Paterson To Tout Importance Of Reading

Author Katherine Paterson, who’s been named national ambassador for young people’s literature, will speak about the importance of reading in child development in an appearance Thursday at St. Michael’s College in Colchester.

Her address, "The Child Left Behind," will cap Vermont Reads Day, a statewide celebration organized by the Vermont Humanities Council.

Paterson, a winner of the National Book Award and Newbery Medal, is the author of "The Day of the Pelican."

The address is free and open to the public. It’s at 7:30 p.m. at the McCarthy Arts Center.
