A passenger in a vehicle that hit a bus carrying a high school hockey team earlier this month has died of her injuries.

Mary Jane Danyow of Vergennes died Friday at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Vermont State Police suspect the driver, 66-year-old John Billard of Vergennes, was driving while under the influence when he struck the bus on January 15.

Police say Billard lost control of his 2000 Jeep Cherokee, crossed into the oncoming lane on Route 7 and collided with the bus carrying the Mount Mansfield Union High School boys hockey team.

Police say they’re working with the Addison County State’s Attorney’s office and criminal charges are pending.
