A southbound section of Interstate 89 in Sharon is closed after a large piece of granite fell off a truck and damaged it. No one was hurt.
Vermont Agency of Transportation officials say the southbound lanes of the highway at Exit 2 will be closed for at least two days.
In the meantime, traffic is being directed off the interstate, across Route 132 and back into the highway.
The northbound lanes of the highway aren’t affected.
The mishap occurred on Wednesday, when a piece of granite weighing an estimated 20 tons fell off a flatbed truck, gouging several holes in the deck of a bridge and damaging railing on the interstate as it passes over Route 132.
