A panel established by Vermont lawmakers to take a critical look at the exemptions contained in the state’s public records law says it wants some help from the House and Senate Judiciary committees.

The Public Records Legislative Study Committee says it will look for the judiciary panel’s help with two public records exemptions affecting the police.

One involves documents related to internal investigations involving members of the Vermont State Police. The other considers access to records about police criminal investigations.

The special panel of six lawmakers held the first of three scheduled meetings Wednesday in Montpelier.
