A search of the Lamoille River is expected to resume for an Essex man missing since the fishing boat he was in was washed over a dam after the motor on the boat failed.

Authorities say 26-year-old David Driscoll is missing and presumed dead after he and a fishing companion were caught on Arrowhead Mountain Lake when their small aluminum fishing boat’s motor failed, and the current pulled them toward the dam at about 1:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Driscoll’s companion was rescued.

Witnesses called for help after seeing two men trying to paddle their boat away from the dam with their hands. Officials say the boat initially was pinned against the dam’s central sluice gate.

The search was suspended at about 7 p.m. Tuesday. It’s due to resume today.
