A Vermont game warden says moose need to subsist on food they browse in the state’s forests.
And it was a diet of fruit, oats and doughnuts led to the death of Rocky, a yearling moose that had been showing up in Rochester for the last several months and was being fed by passers-by.
Game Warden Douglas Lawrence says the food the moose ate was like a human living on Twinkies, it tastes good, but you can’t live on it.
The moose became ill Sunday night and was lying down. A veterinarian determined on Tuesday that it was dying.
A game warden euthanized the moose on Tuesday.
