Officials urge precautions during cold snap

New Hampshire’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is suggesting that residents take precautions to protect themselves during the extreme cold weather approaching the state.

The National Weather Service is predicting extremely cold temperatures throughout New Hampshire through the weekend.

Homeland Security Director Christopher Pope says exposure to the extreme cold can result in frostbite and hypothermia. He says people should dress in layers and limit their time outside.

Other things people can do are to insulate pipes to keep them from freezing, and use a hair dryer or other non-flame heat source if they do; keep flashlights, batteries bottled water and non-perishable food in the house, and make sure that vehicles are properly winterized.
