NY Trooper Killed While Responding to Domestic Abuse

A man armed with a rifle shot and killed his girlfriend and a state trooper before killing himself after a domestic dispute Monday morning in Crown Point, New York, state police say.

New York State Trooper Lawrence P. Gleason responded to the residence of Amanda Olcott just before 9 a.m. Police say that James Scharpf, 36, showed up a short time later while Olcott was talking with the trooper. He then fired three shots into the home, one of which killed Gleason. The trooper was 28.

Police say Scharpf then went into the house and killed Olcott before killing himself.
