A group of Vermont Yankee opponents who want the state to block its re-licensing are planning a novel approach – walking 122 miles from Brattleboro to Montpelier to buttonhole legislators at the Statehouse.
The march is organized by members of the Safe and Green citizens group who live in Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire towns near the nuclear plant. It begins on January 2nd and is expected to take about 10 days.
Organizer Chad Simmons, of Brattleboro, says people who live near Vermont Yankee have a unique perspective on its request for a 20-year license extension, which would allow it to keep operating past its scheduled 2012 closing.
