The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will allow the state of Vermont and a local environmental group to raise questions about planned power boost at the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant.

On Monday a review panel of the NRC granted the state’s request to hold a formal hearing on safety questions raised by the power upgrade.

The state wants the NRC to examine Yankee’s plans to use pressure inside the reactor as part of its safety margin.
