(Host) Vermonters head to the polls tomorrow to cast ballots in the primary election.

But how many voters will turn out is still unclear.

Deputy Secretary of State Bill Dalton says there are many so many variables that factor into voter participation that it’s difficult to make a prediction:

(Dalton) "Remember that we moved the primary forward to make sure that we were getting our military and overseas ballots out and back in a timely fashion. That was a major change, so what does that mean if you move your primary into prime vacation time? Nobody knows."

(Host) Dalton says in the hotly contested Democratic gubernatorial race, the turnout will depend on how well the candidates work to get out the vote.

On the Republican side, Brian Dubie is unchallenged for the gubernatorial nomination. But there’s a contested race for lieutenant governor in both parties. And that may get voters’ attention.

Early voting has been under way for several weeks, but the secretary of state’s office doesn’t keep tabs the number of people who’ve already voted.
