Work is beginning this week to remove steel from a rail corridor between northern New Hampshire and Vermont, allowing for better snowmobiling and future development of year-round recreational opportunities.

The New Hampshire Bureau of Trails says steel rail on the line from Bridge Street in Colebrook, N.H., to Beecher Falls, Vt., is being removed to improve the winter surface of the popular snowmobile trail, and to allow for year-round use in the future. The removal project is expected to be completed by the end of October, and could add another month to the snowmobile season.

The rail will be used to repair other state-owned corridors in New Hampshire.
