NH regulators were close to shutting down track

Even if the Hinsdale Greyhound Track hadn’t declared bankruptcy in December, it probably would have been shut down by the state.

State gambling regulators say they told track officials in November that they planned to deny the track its operating license for this year and asked it to begin closing down. Timothy Connors, chairman of the New Hampshire Racing and Charitable Gaming Commission, says the decision was influenced by the attorney general’s investigation into the track’s finances and business practices.

That investigation ended with the bankruptcy, but the attorney general’s office is now investigating the track’s use of money from betting accounts to pay employees. When the track went bankrupt, hundreds of bettors lost a half million dollars.
