In New Hampshire, Congressman Paul Hodes says he was pleased to hear President Bush focus on uncertainty in the economy but was disappointed that the president did not provide specific plans on health care, energy and Iraq.

Senator John Sununu said families across New Hampshire are feeling the economic squeeze. He says Congress needs to act quickly to pass an economic package that gives short-term relief to taxpayers, and creates new jobs.

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter wasn’t encouraged by Bush’s address. She said it’s as if we are living in parallel universes. In the president’s universe, Shea-Porter said Americans can be confident about economic growth and the war is being won; and in everybody else’s universe, gas is expensive, the housing market is falling apart, and the war has no end in sight.
