New Hampshire fire investigators have concluded that a fire at a Jaffrey wood pellet manufacturing plant was accidental, and that workers responded appropriately in trying to put the fire out.

The fire started near a motor of a pellet mill at New England wood Pellet LLC on Sunday night. Officials say what ignited the fire remains under investigation.

Investigators say workers immediately fought the fire using a portable fire extinguisher. During their efforts, the fire extended into the conveyor system that takes finished wood pellets throughout the manufacturing process.

Police Chief David Chamberlain says the workers were completely unaware that fire had spread and immediately called 911 once they found out.

Three firefighters suffered minor injuries during the 29 hours it took to suppress the fire.
