New Hampshire is getting $1 million from the federal government to help soldiers and their families.

Major General Kenneth Clark says the money cannot be used as direct aid to the soldiers, but has been designated to create a system to provide information and direction to soldiers and families who need help with anything from counseling to heating assistance.

He said the National Guard will work with the state Department of Health and Human Services and the Easter Seals’ "Veterans Count" program to make sure military families get the help they need.
