The Executive Council has unanimously confirmed Michael Delaney to replace Kelly Ayotte as New Hampshire’s attorney general.

The 40-year-old Delaney, a former deputy attorney general, most recently served as Gov. John Lynch’s legal counsel. Ayotte resigned last month to explore a run for U.S. Senate.

Lynch said Wednesday that Delaney has a keen legal intellect, strong leadership qualities and a strong commitment to justice.

Delaney served in the attorney general’s office from 1999 to 2006 before moving to the governor’s office.
