The legal debate over the future of the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant is heating up at a federal appeals court and at the state Public Service Board. The state this week laid out a detailed case for why the plant should not get a new 20 year state permit to operate. FEMA has approved the buyout of 78 homes across Vermont that were destroyed during Tropical Storm Irene. The head of the company that put on a dance party at Memorial Auditorium says there’s nothing to back up claims by Burlington officials that the event was unsafe.
