Governor Peter Shumlin says he wants to forgive about $6 million dollars that the state auditor says several Vermont cities and towns owe the state in connection with special tax districts designed to promote economic development. At least five Vermont communities have approved measures calling for more gun control. Guns were also a topic of discussion at Highgate’s town meeting. People there voted against a proposed ordinance to bar recreational shooting in residential areas. The Vermont Attorney General’s office says nine Cumberland Farms stores have been issued violations involving the monitoring of underground gasoline storage tanks.
