A Senate Judiciary committee heard testimony yesterday to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision and to overhaul campaign finance reform. Protests are planned for the Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Premiers, which is taking place in Burlington next week. Blue-green algae are causing problems on Lake Champlain and other lakes across Vermont. The blooms are appearing earlier, and are more widespread than normal this year. Three men have been sentenced to federal prison after pleading guilty to their roles in an oxycodone distribution ring centered in Grand Isle.
