Until recently, most Vermonters probably weren’t aware that the state had its own airplane. But a budget fight in Montpelier has shone a spotlight on the single-engine Cessna. And news that Governor Peter Shumlin used the aircraft in the run-up to last year’s election has Republicans crying foul. Under a bill gaining support in the Statehouse, Vermont could be the first state in the nation to require labels on products made with genetically modified crops. Lawmakers are trying to craft the measure so it can withstand and expected court challenge.The legislature will vote tomorrow by secret ballot to elect the next leader of the Vermont National Guard. Vermont State Police say a 22-year-old Maryland woman has died after consuming large amounts of alcohol while at a cabin with friends.
