The Federal Emergency Management Agency has rejected buyouts for 33 Vermont properties damaged by Tropical Storm Irene and spring flooding last year. Rutland held its annual Gift of Life Marathon Blood drive. The goal was to beat a one day record set by Manchester, New Hampshire to collect 1,986. Beetles have been released in two communities in Southern Vermont to try to stem the spread of the hemlock wooly adelgid.
