Incumbent Bill Sorrell was clinging to a slim lead over challenger T.J. Donovan in a closely fought Democratic primary for attorney general. Sorrell was ahead by about 600 votes with 95 percent of the vote counted in unofficial returns. Bells rang out across Vermont last night as the state marked the one-year anniversary since Tropical Storm Irene’s devastation. One year after Irene hit, more than a dozen property owners have received word from FEMA – in the past few weeks – that the federal government will buy out their homes that were destroyed by the tropical storm. A former student of a Vermont military college is going to spend two-and-a-half years in prison for driving drunk in a crash that killed a Norwich University student and critically injured three others last fall.
