A number of Governor Peter Shumlin’s new tax initiatives face strong opposition at the Statehouse. This disagreement could affect a number of the Governor’s top legislative priorities. A number of groups are pushing for a boost in state funding for a program that promotes Vermont’s agricultural and forestry sectors. Governor Peter Shumlin says Quebec Premier Pauline Marois is committed to improving the rail connections between Montreal and New York, including the line through the Green Mountain State. In New Hampshire, Governor Maggie Hassan faces questions from the House and Senate budget committees about her proposed two-year spending plan for the state.
