Governor Peter Shumlin’s new tax initiatives face opposition at the State house. Governor Shumlin says Quebec Premier Pauline Marois is committed to improving the rail connections between Montreal and New York, including the line through Vermont. The Vermont Environmental Court has sided with the Brattleboro Retreat on a proposal to house patients participating in the psychiatric hospital’s Uniformed Service Program. Vermont firefighters have been battling a blaze this morning in a Rutland gun shop not far from the city’s downtown.
