Governor Peter Shumlin says the U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding the federal Affordable Care Act paves the way for Vermont to implement a single-payer health care system in 2017.

Vermont’s Congressional delegation is pleased and relieved that the Supreme Court upheld President Barack Obama’s health care law, including the mandate that all Americans have health insurance or pay a fine.

Vermont’s Chittenden Solid Waste District is telling its customers not to eat or sell vegetables in gardens where bulk Green Mountain Compost has been used this year if there are plants with curled or stunted leaves. The district says there are concerns some of its bulk products could be contaminated with herbicides.
