Two of Gov. Peter Shumlin’s more high-profile recent proposals are up for committee discussion in the Vermont House. In his Budget speech last week, Governor Peter Shumlin said that Vermonters enrolled in Catamount Health Care won’t face additional financial burdens when the state’s new health care exchange goes into place next January. But some health care advocates say the Governor is following through on only half of that pledge. Next week, the town of Hartford will put the fire chief in charge of the police department. The select board supports the plan, saying it will save money and improve coordination of public safety services.
