Environmentalists gathered in Washington D.C. over the weekend to protest a proposed pipeline that would carry tar sands oil from western Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. Groups ranging from the Vermont Farm Bureau to the Vermont Natural Resources Council are pushing for a big boost in state funding for a program launched last year to promote Vermont’s agricultural and forestry sectors. Governor Shumlin is in Canada today, where he’s planning to sign a "cooperation agreement" with Quebec Premier Pauline Marois.
