Newport Woman Ordered To Pay Restitution For Bank Thefts

A 39-year-old woman Newport woman has been given a seven-year deferred prison sentence and ordered to pay $13,050 in restitution for embezzling money from the bank where she worked.

Tina Bowen Brasseur pleaded no contest Friday to four counts of embezzlement from Community National Bank, where she had been longtime employee.

The Caledonian Record says the thefts took place between October 2008 and April 2009.

According to court documents, Brasseur was pocketing money while exchanging Canadian money for U.S. currency. Bank officials say no customers lost any money.
