Newport Mayor Reynold Choiniere is unhappy with a state police investigation that cleared the city police chief of abuse allegations. Choiniere told The Barton Chronicle that the investigation into the incident was a “white wash.”

Relatives of Dennis Malshuk accused Chief Paul Duquette of pushing the 35-year-old man down stairs this summer. At the time of the incident, police were attempting to arrest Malshuk on a domestic complaint.

Chief Duquette says he’s surprised by the mayor’s comments. Vermont State Police say they ran a good investigation.
