A plan to build a new manufacturing facility that could increase employment for the Vermont cycling apparel and accessory company Louis Garneau USA has taken another step forward.

The town of Derby has granted Louis Garneau permission to build a 60,000-square-foot plant on property on U.S. Route 5 just off Interstate 91. In June the company bought 17 acres of land for just over a million dollars million.

The plant would have space for as many as 120 employees. Currently, 95 work in the company’s leased facility in Newport.

The Caledonian Record says the company must seek state approval for the project that would enable the company to expand its workforce from the 95 currently employed at a manufacturing plant in Newport.
