Vermont’s Catholic Diocese and a church in Newport are reconsidering a decision to put cellular telephone antennae in the church’s bell towers.

But it might be hard for Saint Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport to get out of its contract with Verizon Wireless. The parish was to get $1,500 a month from Verizon for the use of the bell towers. Some parishioners and neighbors have objected strongly to the plan, causing church leaders to think again.
