As the Gulf Coast braces for Issac, Vermonters are commemorating the one-year anniversary of Tropical Storm Irene.
Remembrances and celebrations are scheduled in many communities affected by the storm. And at 7:00 this evening, Governor Peter Shumlin has called for bells to ring across the state.
Meanwhile, Meteorologists at Vermont’s National Weather Service now have a new tool that they say will help predict events like Irene.
The new radar technology is expected to help forecasters more accurately track, assess and warn the public of high-impact weather, including heavy rain, flash flooding, snow-to-rain changeover, and snowfall at various elevations.
The new dual-polarization system is being called the most significant enhancement made to the nation’s radar network since Doppler radar was first installed in the early 1990s.
