New sites eyed in Bennington for some workers from closed building

State officials are shopping around Bennington for permanent space for some state employees who formerly worked at the Bennington State Office Building.

That building was closed in June 2006 amid health concerns after six employees tested positive for sarcoidosis.

The state Department of Buildings and General Services has until January to decide on the options for replacing the building, and it doesn’t appear they’re going to build a whole new building.

Workers are now housed in trailers while state officials determine what to do with the building. State and local officials toured potential sites for some of the offices yesterday.
