An announcement of a "major new manufacturer" leasing some vacant space at IBM Corp.’s Essex Junction plant is expected today.

There are no details about whom the employer is or whether jobs will be created.

Governor Jim Douglas’ office announced that the company will be "setting up operations" at IBM’s microelectronics plant.

The news comes after at least 200 people were laid off from the Vermont IBM plant in January.

The state’s secretary of commerce and community development Kevin Dorn deferred comment to Douglas’ pending announcement, adding the news is "good stuff."
