The Connecticut River  town of  Windsor prides itself on being the birthplace of Vermont. It’s also been a birthplace for new ideas.

The Vermont constitution was signed here, 14 years before Vernont became a state.–an enlightened document that abolished slavery and established public education. 

We begin our audio postcard with Barbara Rhoad. For almost 20 years she’s tended the gardens outside the building where, as she says, "it all began…."
