Lancaster, New Hampshire, may soon have the largest maple sugaring operation in either Vermont or New Hampshire.

Colin Christie, the owner of White Mountain Maple Works, has agreed to buy 916 acres from the Hancock Paper Company. Christie expects to tap about 50,000 trees on the land. A state agriculture official says that will single-handedly increase New Hampshire’s maple sugar production by more than 14%.

New Hampshire would still rank third in New England for maple production, after Vermont and Maine.
