The New England Culinary Institute will close its Essex Junction campus and consolidate operations in Montpelier.

The school’s Board of Directors approved the plan yesterday. School officials say the move will save money and allow NECI to continue to evolve from a culinary school to a culinary college offering a broad range of food-related specialties.

NECI President and founder Fran Voigt says the decision brings all of the school’s best resources to one campus, and the transition to a culinary college will allow the school to stay at the forefront of the industry. The college will offer associate and baccalaureate degrees, and begin to offer online courses.

All operations in Essex Junction, including student housing, administrative offices and classrooms will move to Montpelier by September. NECI will continue to offer short courses and internships at The Essex.
