New Hampshire’s U.S. House members and state environmental activists say they strongly support the energy bill passed in the House yesterday.

Reps. Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes, both Democrats, voted for the legislation.

Hodes says the bill declares our energy independence, saves taxpayers money, helps create jobs and sets the country in a new direction.

Jan Pendlebury, director of the state chapter of the National Environmental Trust, called the bill an opportunity to reduce dependence on foreign oil that will also reduce global warming pollution.

Republican Sen. John Sununu says he is still reviewing the bill, but he was happy that it includes a 10 percent tax credit for consumers who buy biomass home heating units, including wood pellet stoves.

Sununu sponsored a similar provision in the Senate’s energy bill.
