(Host) Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington is closed Monday while officials clean up damage from a fire. The computer laboratory in the Career Development Center adjacent to the high school was badly damaged by a fire on Friday. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze and extinguish it quickly, and crews were able to clean nearby classrooms over the weekend. But the computer lab itself still needs to be examined by insurance adjusters.

Jim Marsden is director of buildings and grounds. He says the investigators don’t think the fire is of a suspicious origin:

(Marsden) “They’re trying to pinpoint an ignition source, and at this point it looks as though it may be simply a hot water pipe that has been up next to a wood partition for a number of years. And it may have caused some charring, and eventually the charring ignited. At this point it’s totally hypothetical.”

(Host) Mount Anthony officials don’t know yet whether school will be open there Tuesday.
