The wait is over for fans of Howard Frank Mosher. His first novel in 3 years hits the bookshelves today.

Mosher has lived in the Northeast Kingdom since 1964 three of his previous 10 books have been made into movies, and the Green Mountain State is prominently featured in his work.

His newest and 11th novel is called "Walking to Gatlinburg", and tells the Civil-War era tale of 17-year-old Morgan Kinneson, who walks from his home on Kingdom Mountain to Tennessee to find his brother, Pilgrim, who’s gone missing at Gettysburg.

Mosher visited our VPR studios recently and said the idea for his new fictional tale emerged from a true story his friend told him about her great-great grandfather, Jasper Memory, who did time in a union prison in Elmira, New York.
