Governor Douglas criticizes a plan by Entergy Nuclear to spin off 5 of its facilities into a separate company that would start deep in debt. The legislature previously supported a bill that would have required Yankee to show it had adequate funding for decommissioning, but Douglas vetoed it; Vermont farmers might have a new chance to diversify their operations;  workers at former state office building in Bennington say files from that building stored in modular offices still pose a danger; Governor Douglas signs a new law requiring new homes bought and sold in 2009 to have photoelectric smoke detectors.
