On Saturday, if you find yourself in Canaan – Vermont’s northeastern-most town – you will hear the sound of the moose. But it will be the humans making the sound at the annual moose calling contest.

It’s held at 1:00 p.m. in the Canaan Community Park as part of the twelfth annual North Country Moose Festival. The festival started Friday in Colebrook, New Hampshire, with music, a street fair, and at this hour, the “Moose Alley Square Dancers.”

The three-day event includes many activities, among them guided tours through moose country.
