Montpelier seeks hike in parking fines

In the capital of Vermont, an illegal parking spot could soon cost you more than ever.

Montpelier Police Chief Anthony Facos says Montpelier hasn’t adjusted its fine amounts in years and that they’re lower than those in Burlington, Winooski, Rutland and Barre. He’s asking the city to consider increasing the fines.

Last year, the city made about $600,000 off parking meters, parking fines and parking passes.

Facos says that with higher fines, the city could make an additional $80,000 without having to write more tickets.

But Facos has yet to say which fines will be increased, and by how much.
