Some parents in Montpelier are urging the school board to save the boy’s high school hockey program from extinction.

Last month school Superintendent Stephen Metcalf gave the board a budget that would cut hockey and a high school dance program in addition to several education positions.

Parent Jerry Goss says the 16-member team is having an excellent year despite a losing record.

But, Montpelier schools are facing a decline in enrollment.

Still, the board is trying to craft a budget with a 6 percent increase in per pupil spending.
