Monarch Butterfly Wintering Population At All Time Low

Vermont’s state butterfly, the monarch, is not having a very good year. The population of monarch butterflies at their wintering grounds in Mexico is at an all-time low. Some scientists say that if the numbers drop much lower, the monarch may never recover.

Kent McFarland is a conservation biologist with the Vermont Center for Ecostudies.  He spoke with Vermont Edition about why there are many different ecosystems at play.
