A federal grand jury has indicted a Christian missionary on a charge he helped a woman take her 9-year-old daughter to Central America during a custody dispute with her former lesbian partner.

The one paragraph indictment against Timothy Miller alleges he helped Lisa Miller take her daughter to Nicaragua from the United States between September of 2009 and April of 2010.

Miller appeared in court last month in Burlington and was released on bail.

Lisa Miller and Janet Jenkins, of Fair Haven were joined in a Vermont civil union in 2000 but broke up after having the child.

Lisa Miller was awarded custody, but refused to grant visitation. After years of legal fights, a judge awarded custody to Jenkins, the non-biological parent.
