Milk truck crash spills milk into Missisquoi

State police say the tractor-trailer was carrying about 8,000 gallons of milk when it went off a road Sunday morning and crashed into a drainage ditch in Swanton, close to the Canadian border. The tank ruptured, sending most of the milk into the ditch.

Firefighters in the town of about 6,500 residents contained the spill, but some of the milk ended up in the Missisquoi River, a tributary of Lake Champlain.

Police say the driver was going too fast while trying to make a left turn, causing his truck to roll over. He’s been cited for driving with a suspended license.

Nobody was hurt in the accident.
