Town officials in Essex have saved $100,000 in maintenance costs due to the mild winter.

Select Board Chair Linda Myers says Essex has spent 25 percent less on overtime this year compared to last, 48 percent less on salt and 33 percent less on sand.

Some of the savings will go toward stocking sand and salt for future storms, and the town’s Select Board will decide whether to spend the additional funds on roads, or to put it in a reserve fund.
