Middlebury senior crusades for slope safety

A Middlebury College senior who was paralyzed in a skiing accident two years ago is back on the slopes, and she’s hoping to improve safety conditions and awareness in ski racing so others can avoid suffering the same fate.

Twenty-one-year-old Kelly Brush’s foundation recently made its first donation of $35,000 to ski clubs around the nation, which will go to help buy protective equipment.

Brush now skis with a special apparatus and poles.

She was injured in February 2006 when she crashed into a lift tower while competing in a giant slalom race at the Williams College carnival.
